Seattle Behavior Consulting and Therapy was founded by Dr. Mara Oblak, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) in 2012. Dr. Oblak received her BA in Special Education and Elementary Education from Gonzaga University in 2005. Following graduation, she moved to New York to study Teaching as Applied Behavior Analysis at the Teachers College at Columbia University. She received her MA (2007) and Ph.D. (2010) along with Associate Behavior Analyst and Assistant Research Scientist ranks from the program.

While in NY, Dr. Oblak worked with middle school children with emotional and behavioral disabilities and elementary aged children with ASD. She also served as preschool teacher for 4 years at a preschool for children with and without disabilities. In 2010, she moved to Southeast Louisiana to teach an inclusion classroom using behavior analysis techniques to individualize instruction for both the regular education and special education students in the classroom. Dr. Oblak also trained undergraduate and graduate students from the local university on the use of those techniques in the classroom. As a native Seattleite, she is excited to be back in the Pacific Northwest to provide services to children and their families.

SBCT Program Supervisors

Rachel Kakach, M.Ed., BCBA , LBA
BCBA #1-13-14953
LBA #BA60769899

Hi! I’m Rachel. Born and raised in Minnesota, I moved out to Washington to attend the University of Puget Sound where I majored in Psychology and French Literary Studies. After I graduated from college, I worked at the University of Washington Autism Center as an interventionist on the Early Steps Study, which provided intensive early intervention services to young children with autism using the Early Start Denver Model. Through this experience, I learned how important it is for an individual’s team – the parents, teachers, ABA therapists, BCBA, and other related-service professionals – to work together to ensure that everyone is on board with the child’s plan. This ultimately led me to go back to school to pursue my Master’s in Education in Applied Behavior Analysis from the University of Washington. I passed the BCBA exam in September of 2013. I am excited to join the SBCT team!

Joshua Haegele, MAAL, BCBA, LBA

Joshua jokingly calls this his “3rd Career” and has previously worked in diverse fields such as translation, procurement, and IT before settling on the ABA field. Joshua passed his BCBA exam in August 2016 and is looking forward to putting his skills to use. Joshua is currently working on an MBA. In his free time he enjoys reading Sci-Fi and Non-fiction, writing, learning languages, and playing STO or SWOTR.

Haley Scheer, M.A., BCBA, LBA
BCBA # 1-18-32982
LBA # BA60931005

Haley grew up on Vashon Island and after 5 years of living abroad she has returned to her hometown of Seattle. Haley lived in St. Andrews, Scotland, for 4 years while pursuing her Master of Arts in Psychology. She has always had a passion for working with children and has developed and expanded her skills in this area through various experiences such as volunteering (and living at!) an orphanage in Peru for a summer, working as a nanny, and interning at a local residential behavioral health facility for children. Following her graduation from the University of St. Andrews, she fulfilled a lifelong dream by buying a one-way ticket to Bangkok and spent an entire year backpacking solo around Southeast Asia. She obtained her yoga teacher training license along the way and hopes to eventually teach here at home. Haley loves to travel and has currently been to 33 countries! She hopes to continue adding to this list. Haley has been working at SBCT for over 2 years now and is pursuing her BCBA credentials. She has been working full time while studying for her Master's Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis at Ball State University, and will be graduating in May 2018. Haley is thrilled to achieve this next step in her ABA career and is thankful for all of the support that SBCT has provided along the way. Haley is currently working as an RBT while finishing up her degree, and in her spare time loves hiking, sailing, yoga, painting and photography.

I am from Louisville, KY, and moved up to Seattle after completing my B.S. in Behavioral Neuroscience from Centre College of Kentucky. Through my time in college and various volunteering opportunities back home and here in Seattle, I was turned towards the field of ABA to start my journey towards helping those like myself diagnosed with ASD and Asperger’s to lead as full a life as they can achieve. In my free time I like to play games with friends, try my hand at cooking, and go for runs in the park.

From working with children in my church to working in a senior center, I found my passion with helping others and giving back to the community. I’m excited to be apart of this team and give back. In my free time, I’m usually watching F.R.I.E.N.D.S, hanging out with my fiancé, my dog, my friends, or my family, and going on adventures.

Benjamin Fowler

Hello, I’m Benjamin. I was born in Seattle and have spent most of my life in the beautiful PNW. Before starting at SBCT I worked for the Greater Seattle YMCA for 6+ years. Within those 6+ years I spearheaded a personal training class ‘Specialized Recreation’ for youth with developmental disabilities. I was also the regional manager for a series of climbing structures for the Y. I facilitated both a team of staff as well as all youth within the programs. I spent most of my professional time at the Matt Griffin YMCA in SeaTac which is the most diverse Y in the state. I bring my extensive work experience to the table as well as my passion for working closely with families and youth and creating meaningful and lasting inter-personal relationships. I derive a strong sense of enrichment and community from my work. Helping people has always been a passion of mine. When I’m not at work you will most likely find me performing at a local music venue such as Pike Place Market, perusing old record crates at Easy Street Records in West Seattle or traveling the world in search of great live music! If you see me around, don’t be shy! Say hi!

Office Companion

Often on SBCT premises, Milo can be seen everywhere from sleeping in his bed with his favorite Seahawks blanket, to scurrying around the clinic in between sessions. He officially adopted Mara Oblak 10 years ago at a shelter in New York, and he originates from the Texas/Mexico border. Milo, a Pisces, enjoys short walks on the beach and a water bowl within reach. Occasionally, he will jump in and run the office while Administrative Staff are out of town.
